Madonna with Cherubs
German Alpine region, circa early 1700 to 1750.
29 inches tall.
Carved wood, then applied gesso, then painted.
Condition is excellent.
This beautiful figure came from a church in the village of Neukirche, near Munich, in the state of Bavaria/Bayern, Germany.
I have no way of telling for sure, but I think the gold leaf on this piece is real gold. Why a church would deaccession such a piece is beyond my understanding, but here it is for your pleasure.
The cherubs at the base are just wonderful.
